Iceni is the UK's premier women’s ultimate team (What is Ultimate?) and was London’s first geo women’s club. Formerly known as HRH, the club were the UK Womens National Champions in 2004. The club had a name change to Iceni in early 2005 and has retained the National Champion crown since its inception - 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. We came 8th in the 2006 World Ultimate Club Championships, in Perth, Australia and have been in every women's final contested in the European Club Series.
From 2008, the Iceni club consisted of two teams - Iceni and Iso. Iceni is an elite women's team focussed on both domestic and international competition. In 2008, Iceni won both the UK Tour and UK National titles and came 2nd at the European Club Finals. Iso grew out of a demand for a team that could be a home to both experienced and developing players looking to play high quality ultimate. In 2008, Iso came 5th in every Tour and at Nationals.
From 2010, Iso is a separate club from Iceni, with the aim to remain a competitive force in UK ultimate. Both clubs come together to hold joint sessions and trials during the off-season. To find out more about Iso, click here.
The name Iceni is inspired by the legend of Boudica from 60AD(ish). We love the tale of a powerful warrior princess leading an army of determined and intimidating Celts (mostly from the Iceni tribe) to wage war on the Romans - even though the Romans were far better trained and equipped! How to Join
During winter we practice at the floodlit Battersea Millenium Arena on Monday evenings. These session are aimed at intermediate and advanced women and will be a good opportunity for women who might like to play with Iceni next season to get to know the team, get in touch to find out more. For less experienced players, we also run skills days.
